Falanghina, 2010, Beneventano from Marks and Spencers

Recommended both by the Sunday Telegraph (Victoria Moore) and shown on Saturday morning Kitchen, it caught my eye today as I was making the mad dash for sausages at M&S before the school pick up.

Recommended both by the Sunday Telegraph (Victoria Moore) and shown on Saturday morning Kitchen, it caught my eye today as I was making the mad dash for sausages at M&S before the school pick up. I know I am lucky, I have my pick of wines everyday through the restaurant and yet I always try and make a habit of trying something new from the retail market. If I am being honest, I do tend to prefer M&S wines, I like the style of the wine buyer Chris Murphy, and his biase towards Italian wines is in my opinion an indulgence that has warranted him 38 years service at M&S – good man!

This wine is currenlty priced at £5.99 in the shops or £35.94 for a case of 6 on the M&S Wine Direct club

This wine offers so much for its money. It is being cited as the new “pinot Grigio”, a slow burner that will undoubedtly take on more and more over the next few years. A lovely lemon green colour with a typical rich aroma of almonds, melon and lemon curd. The palate is crisp, precise and intense. The concentration of fruit, of pear flesh and lemon curd yest is very morish. This overriding element of nuts, almonds and lemon curd with pastry. If tasted alongside other wines in its price bracket, it would undoubetldy win hands down. My suggestion, buy at least a case of this before the M&S realise they are on to a little gold mind and up the price…sorry to leave you, I am off to make a little purchase!
